These programs will all take place in the Hussman Center for Adults with Autism. Programs will be offered in the following areas:

There is still time to register for all of our programs and get in on the learning and the fun! A 20% discounts is available if you enroll in all three Wednesday programs!

Between every program on Wednesdays, there are breaks facilitated by a Hussman Center for Adults with Autism staff person so that you can relax, have a snack, and enjoy socializing with the Towson University peer mentors while waiting for your next program to begin!

A Comedy Workshop

Laughter is the greatest thing in the world! Towson alumni and professional variety arts performer, Matt Kaiser, who has Asperger's Syndrome, will teach techniques of comedy in a fun environment! Students will learn mime, improvisation games, and fun with props! There will be a showcase where students will perform in front of an audience! Express yourself in ways that you may not have expressed before! Students of every ability will enjoy the course, learn a lot, and participate with Towson University students from the Theater Department in this fun and interactive program!

ALPS- Adult Language and Pragmatic Skills Group:

Adventures in Communication*

This program focuses on improving social pragmatic skills under the direction of a speech language pathologist.  Session topics include: communication and conversation skills, dating, on-the-job communication, initiating and maintaining friendships, problem solving, perspective taking, setting goals, coping with sensory issues, and determining personal strengths and needs.  Techniques of discussion, role-playing, video observation, and practical application of skills are emphasized.

ALPS- Adult Language and Pragmatic Skills Group:

Functional Communication Boot Camp*

The Functional Communication Boot Camp is designed to increase the participant’s ability to use language in their daily life. Interactive activities and community outings make the development of increased abilities fun and meaningful. The participant will create tools that support their use of language and that their family will learn to use with them outside of class.

Creative Movement (Begins March 27th, Facilitated Social Activities Occurs During the March 6th & 13th Sessions Until Dance Begins)

The Creative Movement program through the Hussman Center for Adults with Autism is a new program employing dance, creative movement and text (multiple types of accessible formats available) as a means of increasing social participation, coordination, self-esteem and self-confidence! The program leads you through weekly group classes designed to facilitate social interaction via the alternative language of movement. Likewise, improvisation and self competence within expression are encouraged and practiced every week within the framework of the dance movement classroom. We look forward to increasing connections via the limitless qualities that a human being can possess within movement expression! We hope to see you there!

Art Program

This program develops creativity and self-expression through a variety of art media. Participants explore the fundamentals of line, shape, form, value, color, and texture, as well as learn about art history and contemporary art. Sessions may include drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and printmaking in a variety of media. Curricula will be targeted to the interests and skills of the class.

Wellness FIT Program

Upon completion of program each participant is provided an individually prescribed fitness program.  This program will focus on social and interactive skills while supporting participants in their personalized fitness goals.  Mentors and personal trainers provide individualized instruction and guidance.  Fitness programs will address flexibility, strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular health.  Individualized attention and small group setting optimize social skill rehearsal, peer teaching, problem solving, and effective communication.
